Helping Immigrants build a future in Canada

Meet Our Keynote Speaker

Nina_edited.jpg

After immigrating in 2015, Nina Taherimakhsousi worked steadily to achieve a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) focused in Computer Software Engineering from the UVic. She currently works with a team of researchers at UBC in the Chemistry Department where she serves as a Machine Learning & Machine Vision Scientist. Nina is skilled in Artificial Intelligence and Self-adaptive Systems and has applied her unique experience and knowledge as an entrepreneur.

When she's not working, she enjoys family life with her partner and pre-school son. Networking has been game-changing for Nina and allowed her to discover diverse perspectives apart from her own.

She has been voluntarily involved in different roles such as Software Team Leader at the Psychology department and used her knowledge to solve local community problems. Moreover, she started first the ACM-W chapter at UVic when she found out we didn’t have one in BC and acted as a chair for 3 years. As a scientist and a mother, she had the privilege to be a long time, active member of Women in Engineering and Computer Science, IEEE Membership Societies, IEEE Computer Society and IEEE Women in Engineering, and Island Women in Science and Technology.
